I became a published author when I was 30 but my career started long before that. At the age of 19, I made the decision to drop out of university as I was unhappy with my course, and I ended up interning at studentbeans.com. Whilst there, I established their social media presence (this was when Twitter was beginning to take off) and realised that I enjoyed working so much, I didn’t want to go back to uni!
After a year there, I interned at other tech start-ups and eventually landed a job at Google. Although it was an incredible experience, the role was very taxing and stressful, so I left the organisation. From there, I moved into social media marketing at advertising agencies and worked for a huge variety of brands: everything from PG Tips and Peperami to L’Oreal and Nike. A career highlight for me was working on Sport England’s award-winning This Girl Can campaign.
Whilst working full-time, I set aside time (mainly very early in the morning) to work on my novel. As much as I enjoyed my social media career, I knew I wanted to write books for young people. I spent a few years working on the draft of my first novel, and secured an agent in 2017. One year later, I had a book deal with Scholastic and in 2019, my debut novel ‘Oh My Gods’ was published. Since then, I’ve published three more novels for young people. I’ve spoken to thousands of students around the country about my books, and been shortlisted for some incredible awards. I’m now a full-time author and live in London with my family.
